numerical and sensitivity analysis of rc beams strengthened with frp
Authors
abstract
in this paper, using numerical methods and test results, the behavior of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with fiber-reinforced polymers (frp) is investigated. in the numerical analysis, the concrete damaged plasticity model is used for considering the nonlinear behavior and strain softening of concrete. the abaqus finite element program is utilized for the analysis of 12 flexural beams strengthened with frp sheets. comparison between the test results and values obtained from the analysis shows that the numerical method can accurately predict the load-deflection, failure load, strain distribution and failure mode of the strengthened beams. in order to evaluate the effect of different parameters on the numerical results, a sensitivity analysis was carried out. based on the sensitivity analysis, it was found the concrete fracture energy is an important parameter in the prediction of the behavior of the strengthened beams

numerical analysis of rc beams flexurally strengthened by cfrp laminates
this paper presents the results of analytical studies concerning the flexuralstrengthening of reinforced concrete beams by external bonding of high-strength lightweightcarbon fiber reinforced plastic (cfrp) plates to tension face of the beam. three groups of beamswere tested analytically and compared with existing experimental results. results of the numericalanalyses showed that, although addi...
full textDebonding Failures of Rc Beams Strengthened with Externally Bonded Frp Reinforcement: Behaviour and Modelling
Both the flexural and shear strengths of reinforced concrete (RC) beams can be substantially enhanced using externally bonded fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. Failures of such FRP-strengthened RC beams often occur by debonding of the FRP plate from the RC beam in a number of forms. Despite numerous theoretical and experimental studies on debonding failures of FRP-strengthened RC beams...
full textStructural behaviour of RC beams externally strengthened with FRP sheets under fatigue and monotonic loading
This paper presents experimental research on the fatigue and post-fatigue static behaviour of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with glass or carbon fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets placed either vertically or obliquely. All beams for fatigue tests were subjected to four-point bending for one million cycles with a frequency of 5 Hz. The results show that the FRP sheets can be used to ...
full textFatigue-loading effect on RC beams strengthened with externally bonded FRP
Externally bonded carbon-epoxy fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRPs) have been widely used to restore or increase the capacities of reinforced concrete beams (Meier et al., 1992; Neale and Labossière, 1997; Varastehpour and Hamelin, 1997). A typical reinforced concrete bridge deck may experience up to 7x10 stress cycles during the course of a 120year life span (Barnes and Mays, 1999), while an over...
full textStrut-and-Tie Method for Prediction of Ultimate Shear Capacity of Shear-Strengthened RC deep beams with FRP
The main objective of this study is to propose the Strut-and-Tie method (STM) to predict the shear capacity of simply supported RC deep beams shear-strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP). It is assumed that, the total carried shear force by shear-strengthened RC deep beam provided by three independent resistance, namely diagonal concrete strut due to Strut-and-tie mechanism, ...
full textCapacity Assessment of Gld Rc Frames Strengthened with Frp
Many gravity load designed (GLD) reinforced concrete (RC) frames are nowadays located in seismic areas. Different strengthening methodologies have been proposed in the past; an innovative technique based on the use of composites was proposed and validated by an experimental program developed at University of Missouri-Rolla. A theoretical approach for the assessment of the subassemblage capacity...
